Travel for Food and Why I Travel for Food

TLDR:

  • Food is the center of a lot of different cultures regardless of where you go and where you are.
  • Where you can find food, you can also find a lot of your sights and experiences that you wanted to go to in the first place, but you should definitely not starve yourself and you can definitely eat only so much!
  • Every region is different in every country and it’s fun to discover the differences!

There are plenty of reasons why we all travel; it can range from seeing the Eiffel Tower to going to Mt. Fuji to enjoying the gastronomic experience in Paris or shopping in Milan.  As I post my itineraries, I have been to quite a few places from an island in Thailand to all over Japan and Europe too.

Within each of these itineraries and even days, every region that visited had something to be loved about the food and they each specialized in something different.  For example, in Milan, they are known for their Risotto Alla Milanese, which is saffron risotto.  However, travelling to Venice, they were known for their Risotto al nero di seppia, also known as Risotto with Cuttlefish Ink or Black Risotto.   Another great example is the many different ramens and noodles in Japan.  When were up in Hakodate, Hokkaido, they were known for their Shio Ramen, or salt-based ramen, but just even further in Sapporo, Hokkaido, which is 255km about or 158 miles north of Hakodate, and 4 hours by train, their known for the Miso Ramen.

As you eat different regions of food, you will grow to understand a lot of who the people are and the history of the area too. As this is mainly a food blog, it will tell you a lot alongside the local architecture too. I think the best example I can give is Strasbourg, which is located in Alsace-Lorraine. Historically, this area has been constantly fought over in many wars, both by Germany and France, and is currently within France. Architecturally, there is an interesting blend of German design and French flair, but the food is heavily influenced by the Germans. While I was there recently, the biggest trip was while even in France, the portions were very German, along with the taste. Funny enough, one of the locals that I spoke to even said that when he made Choucroute Garnie (Sauerkraut with ‘Garnish’ of different cuts of porks, he would have days worth of food from it.

There are just nuggets to find everywhere, even while just going to the different regions and exploring on a whim so explore everything and try everything!

Keep roaming and eating!
